Rhapsody goes DRM-Free. RealNetworks and MTV Networks have joined forces and are converting their entire database of five million songs to the unprotected MP3 format. The merging forces are hoping to make Rhapsody the default music provider on the internet by allowing streaming and buying music from multiple partners like Yahoo, MTV, and Verizon Wireless. Rhapsody has partnered with Verizon Wireless and made and agreement that Rhapsody will provide for the online VCast Music store. A copy of any song purchased from a Verizon phone will be available DRM free and users can transfer any track to up to 10 models of Verizon phones. Verizon subscribers will also have the option to upgrade to a Rhapsody subscription and have the monthly charge added to their monthly phone bill.
