Derik Nelson Band:
On March 12th at the famed Key Club in Los Angeles, twenty-one
year old USC student Derik Nelson took the stage with
his appropriately named Derik Nelson Band. As one of the
opening acts for Marcy Playground of “Sex and Candy”
fame, the up and coming band floored their small audience
with introspective lyrics and catchy melodies.
Opening with several original tracks, the band showed
both skill and passion as Derik confessed to the crowd
that performing was a bit like “reading my diary
set to music.” In between piano-driven originals
about love and occasionally lack thereof, the band also
took time to cover such hits as Steve Miller Band’s
“Fly Like an Eagle” and Michael Jackson’s
“PYT.”
You can catch Derik’s debut CD, “Alone With
the Keys and the Cat” on iTunes and visit his website
deriknelson.com for upcoming concert dates. You don’t
want to miss out on this guy. He’s going to go far.
